Another excellent shave this morning. The Gillette Bell Tube Aristocrat is a on the aggressive side but delivers an great shave with a light touch. Ariana And Evans The Novelist Ultima is always a treat to use and the brushes I've acquired from Freddie Payne are among my favorites. He does extraordinary work restoring and resto-moding brushes. This one has a black boar knot and a brass ferrule with a forced patina.

I've bought a British Gillette New Standard, 1928, in silver from eBay. It seems to be in pretty decent condition. What are the community views on the British New Standard? My British Old Type, Aristocrat, Rocket and Flare Tip seems to have a better build quality than their US counterparts - is this true for the New?

IMHO, I believe the finish quality on a Made in England, Vintage Gillette is “better” than the USA manufactured ones. The one there in a special lift up case is known as a Bostonian and a Ridgewood in a timber case. Gillette was well known for same razor/ different cases and names or set numbers?

very cool score. i would say they are the similar quality, maybe better plating. I have a 1922 British Bostonian in near mint condition, but it looked the same as my U.S one quality wise.I think the "better quality than U.S" British Gillettes became more apparant build and plating wise starting in the 1930s with the Aristcrats,New RFB's,and in later 1940s with the FB Techs,Aristocrats, and Rockets..Flare Tip models also.After1962 all countries seemed about the same plating wise and around 1963 the Brit flare tip acquired the cheaper U.S slim head. The U.S also tried different plating media like Chromium instead of silver .Gillette England prefered Rhodium.20260104_134146_edited.jpg

For the most part yes.:cool:Gillette England never made Adjustable models( all U.S made.only packaging, name differences),and also made models like the Rocket 500 HD, in which doesn't have a U.S equivalent..even when Gillette France started making the Monobloc it's plating was inferior the the British made versions.i have seen British,Candian and U.S made Bostonians all together, all in similar condition and there is little difference in manufacturing quality.oddly it's the only model (new standard is the same razor)with uniform quality across the board. This is only my opinionof course.:)

I have one of these @brit I was going to sell it on flea bay so glad I didn't I think it is silver plated.
It's a fairly descent shave as long as you can get the blade sharp enough.
What's you take on it?
Cheers.
The upper end sets are silver plated as mine is.The Feather blades fit peerfectly but don't laste long for some folks.Being I use them once in a while(I have 3) the blades last a bit..:)Cheers.
