On the need to become ambidexterous with using a razor

A lot of people seem to have a patch on their neck that they just cant get, and I was wondering if thats because its a tough spot, or theyre using their wrong hand to shave that spot with and thus the angle isn't quite right. It seems like being able to use both hands when shaving enables one to switch to the other hand and really target tough to shave spots, as opposed to those patches of hair just being naturally impossible to trim.

Hi I have tried this a number of times over the years but I'm so used to shaving right handed I have to be real careful.
As I favour efficient/aggresive razors.
Maybe I should try mild razor like a tech for my offhand touchups
Cheers.

I shave with my left hand with standard razors. However when I was shaving with a straight, I used both hands. I could never get my neck to a satisfactory finish so I went back to mainly standard razors. I will on occasion use a straight just because.

I use both hands. I forced myself to do it when learning how to shave with a straight, and now on the odd occassion when I use a safety razor, I find it easier to use both hands. It means less contortions when skin stretching, if nothing else.

Mmh, I used 2 hands for my 10-12 month attempt at SR’s but when I went to a “genuine” Kamisori I used my dominant R hand to complete the shave, there were some “bloody” good nicks initially 😂😂

Me too.

Same regarding both hands as a result of straight shaving and it has carried over when I revert to a safety razor. However, for whatever reason I’ve never switched hands on the ATG pass on the right side of my face. No idea why.

I have no problem shaving with just my right hand until I shave with a straight. That is when it is most helpful to be able to shave with both hands. It is not that hard to do if you are very careful and concentrate.

I am Left Handed, my only Problem Spot is on my Left Jaw line. I do not change hands to Shave the Right side of my face. This system works for me, and has worked many, many years. AMEN.

Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome. Gets the job done.

With my right hand only shaving style I have learned over the years to automatically change the way I hold the razor to suit just about every area. The one exception that I will try to use my left hand is if the hair on the back of my neck is getting a bit long and I haven’t had my usual number two comb (1/4”) haircut a.k.a. crew cut
In awhile.
Cheers.

I have the same issues with my neck when using my straights. I can’t bend my arms in the right direction. And, right side ear to ear, my skin stretch hand blocks my view in the mirror.

Yes exactly! I am ok not using straights. I can get awesome shaves with safety razors so all is good.
